STOP PRESS

Training will start again on September 3rd at 6pm for Juniors (secondary school age) and 7pm (6.45pm meet) for adults. All welcome!

We will hold Trials on Saturday September 6th in the form of club games - Men at 11.00am and Ladies at 12.30pm. All welcome again! Richard Ackland is planning to hold a BBQ at his house in the afternoon/evening - for directions please contact him or me at info@tauntonhockey.org.uk or ask on the first training night.

The AGM was held on Wednesday May 7th. There were many lively discussions, especially as to whether we could still support all of the 3 Men's teams and 2 Ladies' teams in the coming season - the consensus being that we would make every effort over the summer to encourage existing members to continue and to recruit new players. Also we elected a new Secretary (Terry Harris) as Simon Dacey has stepped down after many years on the Committee, and a Social Secretary (Hayley Williams) who is also leading the recruitment drive along with Rachel Sanders and others. However we are still looking for a Ladies' 1st XI captain. The minutes will be available shortly.

The Summer League has been progressing at Taunton Vale's ground with variable success and attendance. Results to be posted shortly.

A mixed team took part in the Barnstaple tournament and won 3 matches out of 7 whilst keeping their dignity intact (or so I'm told).

Our bowling night was a lot fun and a few pics are available here for you to see. Jules's team were the winners, with Jules getting his highest ever score, with a little help from Lucy, who had an unusual but effective bowling style! (Hayley)

Please email info@tauntonhockey.org.uk with any questions/comments.

Previous News

The End of Season dinner was held on Friday April 4th at Taunton Rugby Club, Bathpool. A lower than usual attendance meant that it was slightly more subdued than in previous years, however all went well and no discarded clothing items were found this year. Report and pictures to follow.

Men's Somerset Plate (12/04/08) - A team of 11 travelled to Bath University on a bright and breezy day to play in a round robin league of 5 against relatively strong opposition. Although we lost all 4 matches (1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 6-1), an enjoyable time was had by all, especially Julian Brown who scored our only goal.

Dave Phelps and Vince Kearney are hoping to organise a paintballing day in Taunton, all welcome. More details when available.

Jo Elsmore passed her Level 2 coaching award at the end of last year and is now putting her skills to good use by trying to bring the Men's teams into some sort of order. Chrissi Curno also passed her Level 2 coaching award.
